California Pharmacy Museum, Sacramento, CA

The California Pharmacy Museum is in a most un-museum-like location: an anonymous building in an anonymous industrial park. It is open by appointment only and I rarely make these while moving across the country. However, this being my first stop of the trip, I made the appointment. My guide was a retired pharmacist who seem very eager to tout all the various items in the displays. All the expected pharmacy paraphernalia are there – bottles, urns, beakers, mortars, pestles, old prescription books, etc. My favorite object was an “Alice in Wonderland” mat for counting pills . . .  apparently, the drug/Alice connection was not obvious even though it is dated 1966.
