Billy Graham Center Museum, Wheaton, IL
Billy Graham has been in Gallup’s list of the most admired 55 times since 1955, more than any other individual in the world. The Billy Graham Center Museum is in the middle of the Wheaton College, a liberal arts college “in the evangelical Protestant tradition.” The exhibits trace the history of the evangelical movement in the US from colonial days to the present. One section stresses the roles that Christians played in the abolition and women’s rights movements; however, many of the illustrations showing the role of women in everyday life weaken their argument considerably. The final section is an abstract walk-through relating to the life of Jesus in which you wind up on a platform hanging in space with a view of some weirdly symmetrical clouds.
